Generative Art for Amazon

After Matisse "The Joy of Life"

A collaboration between designer, code, and chance

These installations were used to identify different team workspaces across floors in an Amazon office in Bellevue, WA. I worked with a web developer to modify a piece of code that would randomly generate graphics based on 24 famous painting masterpieces.

I meticulously created a color palette based on each painting and ran it through the code many (many!) times, while making tweaks to values of stroke, size, distance, opacity, and density until the abstract image reflected the movement, feel, and content of the original painting. Each image is unique and cannot be reproduced again after it has been generated. Included as part of the installation: a thumbnail of the original masterpiece with the title, medium and date.
